Comparing Numbers!
Chapter 3: Greater, Smaller, Equal
Which number is bigger? Which is smaller? Are they the same? We'll learn to reason, not guess! The secret? Always check the tens first.
Sorting Day!
Riya is organising the classroom library! 📚
"This shelf has 37 books and that one has 45 books."
Milo tilts his head. "Which shelf has more books? How do you know?"
Riya smiles. "I don't guess — I compare the tens first!"
Before we compare, let's break down two numbers into tens and ones.
💡 Remember: The tens digit tells us how many groups of 10. The ones digit tells us the leftover singles!
💡 When tens are different, we don't even need to look at the ones! The tens decide everything.
💡 Common mistake: Don't skip to ones without checking tens first!
Try It! Pick the right symbol:
Two numbers are equal when they have the same tens and the same ones.
💡 40 and "4 tens" look different but are the same number!
Use the same comparison logic! Compare tens first, then ones.
Tap numbers in order: Smallest → Largest
💡 Types of problems: Compare two numbers, pick the symbol, find bigger/smaller, order 3 numbers, true/false, and more!
