🌱 A Small Everyday Story

A farmer plants a seed.
He waters it 10 gallons today (Cram). It drowns.
He waters it 1 cup today, 1 cup Wednesday, 1 cup Saturday (Space).
The plant grows strong roots.
Memory is biological. It needs time to grow.
Flooding it doesn't work. Nurturing it over time does.

  • Understanding "Desirable Difficulty" (effort = learning)
  • Moving from "Massed Practice" to "Spaced Practice"
  • Valuing consistency over intensity
  • Strategic laziness (getting better results with less total time)

🌿 Behaviors you may notice (and reinforce):

  • Using flashcards for 5 mins/day instead of 1 hour/week
  • Remembering things from last month without re-studying
  • Understanding that "struggling to remember" is good, not bad

How to reinforce: If they say "I can't remember, wait...", wait! Don't tell them. Let them struggle for 10 seconds. Then when they get it, say: "That struggle just made your brain stronger!"

The intuition is "studying more is better." Break that. "Studying RIGHT is better." Show that 3 x 10mins beats 1 x 60mins.
