What is a Fiber Optics Technician?

Fiber Optics Technicians are skilled professionals responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing fiber optic cables and related equipment. They ensure the seamless transmission of data through light signals over glass or plastic fibers.

A typical shift is bench-centered: you set up lasers and measurement gear, splice and terminate fiber, polish connectors, and compute and record photonic test data. Between builds you maintain clean-room conditions, adjust microscopes and oscilloscopes, and assist engineers with experiments or prototype assembly. Much of the day is instrument operation, documentation, and fine manual work to keep optical parameters within spec.
