What is a Quantitative Analyst (Quant)?

Quantitative Analysts, or Quants, develop and implement complex mathematical models and statistical methods to analyze financial markets, price securities, manage risk, and design trading strategies. They are the architects of financial engineering, translating complex data into actionable trading insights and risk management tools.

Most days you sit at a workstation writing and testing models, running diagnostics against recent P&L, and producing written summary reports. You research or build analytical tools for pricing, attribution, and risk, confer with traders about signals, and maintain model libraries and data collection specs. Communication is heavy: email, brief calls, and occasional face-to-face problem solving punctuate computational work as you balance accuracy with desk tempo.
