What is a DNA Analyst?
DNA Analysts examine biological samples, such as blood, saliva, and hair, to create DNA profiles. They compare these profiles to identify suspects, victims, or establish familial relationships. Their work is crucial for criminal investigations, paternity testing, and identifying remains.
You log and document incoming evidence, extract and quantify DNA, and prepare templates for PCR. After amplification you separate fragments (often via electrophoresis), analyze genetic data, and compare profiles to known samples or databases. Throughout the shift you operate and calibrate equipment, run controls, and write detailed reports so every result is defensible. Training and method validation rounds out routine lab meetings.
