What is a Plant Engineer?

Plant engineers oversee the design, installation, maintenance, and improvement of equipment and systems within industrial facilities. They troubleshoot operational issues, implement safety protocols, and manage projects to enhance plant performance. A large part of their day is spent on the floor, in the thick of it.

You split time between investigating production issues on the floor and converting fixes into plans: analyzing statistical data, inspecting tooling and equipment accuracy, drafting layout and assembly sequences, and coordinating workers doing measurement and testing. You also prepare production reports, cost estimates, and meet with vendors and management to align specifications and schedules. Day-to-day work balances hands-on measurement with documentation and team communication.
