What is an Environmental Engineer?
Environmental engineers develop solutions to environmental problems, focusing on protecting human health and the environment. They design, implement, and manage projects related to air pollution control, water and wastewater treatment, solid waste disposal, and hazardous waste remediation. A typical day mixes office coordination and periodic field oversight: reviewing sampling data, drafting reports and QA procedures, modeling runoff or treatment options, and calling labs, clients, or regulators. You supervise remediation designs, prepare safety and spill contingency plans before site visits, and join face-to-face meetings with planners and scientists. Much of the work is documented precisely to support permits and construction.
