What is a CNC Machine Operator?

CNC Machine Operators set up, operate, and maintain Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines. They load materials, monitor machine performance, and inspect finished parts to ensure they meet specifications, making adjustments as needed.

A typical shift is setup and verification: you review blueprints and CNC programs, mount and align fixtures and tooling, then transfer commands to the control. During runs you monitor displays, listen for vibration or dull tools, change cutters as needed, and measure finished workpieces with micrometers and fixtures to confirm tolerances. Between cycles you maintain coolant and lubrication, replace worn tools, and record measurements so each batch meets specifications.
